Starting in January 2015, the Wi-5 Project (What to do With the Wi-Fi Wild West) proposes an architecture based on an integrated and coordinated set of smart solutions.
The overall approach of the Wi-5 project is best summarised as follows:
- Define the use cases, the requirements, and system architecture for a mature Wi-Fi networking solution to warrant the quality of the solution.
- Consider which subsystems and protocols are needed and readily available and identify which parts of the solution are missing and must be developed these
- Build the complete solution for the Wi-Fi network and test and validate the integrated system in an operational network.
- Discuss the technical concepts, considerations and choices with technical experts and potential users to work toward a solution that is optimised from the perspective of the technology and the market.
Over the course of the next 3 years, the project consortium will work with industry to develop a novel set of smart functionalities that can be readily integrated into existing solutions and deployed to solve real-world issues with the current Wi-Fi eco-system.
